The Southern California Independent Booksellers Association announced nominees for their 2010 book awards, and in the non-fiction category, two of the three nominations were designed by Future Studio (Inventing L.A. and Secret Stairs). The winner will be announced at the always-festive Authors Feast in October. We've had several of our books nominated previously, and one won (Santa Monica Beach).
We did a piece for a series of installations at Ontario Airport. Our piece, Claw Crane of Art & Stuff, can be seen by ticketed passengers in terminal 4. It's a glass case full of stuffed toys we made from socks, potholders, underwear, beach balls, gloves, kitchen utensils, etc. all from 99¢ Only.
Eleven other artists participated, and it is incredible how totally different (and totally great) each installation is. It's a very fun exhibit, just too bad you need to be traveling to see it.
If you have books or magazines you would like to pass along, please bring them to BOOK BOOTH HIGHLAND PARK and just leave them there. Leaving notes in the books is encouraged, and we also register some of them with bookcrossing.com (a really terrific service; check them out). Spanish, bilingual, and kids books are especially appreciated.
Our project BOOK BOOTH appears to be successful--we have stocked it several times now and books are moving (we checked nearby trash cans and they didn't move to there; we have no idea who, what, and when is taking the books but we hope it's having a positive effect).
